FUE Shock Loss

FUE Shock Loss

after hair transplantation

FUE shock loss, also known as shock loss, is totally normal to shed your transplanted hair following an FUE hair transplant operation. This process begins 1-2 weeks after the surgery and it is completely normal. Your new hair will grow in the next 8-12 months. After a hair transplant, the implanted follicles and the attached hairs will stay in their place for 1 or 2 weeks, approximately. The follicles in this period will start to switch into a resting phase and will start to shed their hair. This shock loss might begin as early as 10 days after the operation. It may last up to 12 weeks. This process is expected and it does not mean that the scalp rejects the hairs that are implanted.

Is Shock Loss Normal After Fue?

Shock loss after a hair transplant is completely normal. Shock hair loss is a phenomenon in which your non transplanted hair sheds after a hair transplant. It usually happens between the second and eight weeks after a hair transplant operation. Shock loss is where there is a loss of natural hair from the donor area or after the hair restoration. It is not specific to any procedure such as FUE or FUT surgeries, it might happen in any procedure as it happens. In order to prevent shock hair loss, postoperative care and following your doctor’s instructions plays a major role in preventing or decreasing hair loss. Medications also might help slow or stop hair loss.

Hair Transplant Recovery Period

You may be wondering how the hair transplant recovery timeline will work after you undergo the operation. During the first month, after the operation, all transplanted hairs may be shed. It is totally normal and is a part of the process, no need to worry at all. In the first week after the shedding, the transplanted hair will grow temporarily. After that, in a 1-4 weeks timeline, the growth stops, and the hair shafts start to fall out with the scabs. Any hair shedding that you might experience 4-5 times and later days after the operation is just hair shafts. Hair follicles are held underneath the scalp by ingrowing vessels and are safe 4-5 days after the surgery. The deepest parts of the hair shafts imitate the shape of their follicles. The hair follicle stays safe when the shedding begins 4-5 days after the procedure. The remaining donor area’s hair starts to grow after the operation and covers the area in a week. 3-4 months later, new hairs begin to grow. After these months, 6-9 months is the most noticeable growth can be seen. In 9-12 months, also known as a final thickening, thickening of the hair occurs.

What is FUE?

Follicular unit extraction is one of the two main methods of obtaining hair follicles, naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs. The FUE method is generally carried out over a larger area of the donor area. Many people compare FUE vs FUT hair transplant techniques, too. FUT method, meaning follicular unit transplantation, is a hair restoration technique. The FUT method sometimes can be limited to just a single area at the back.
