We have hair transplantation and it is perfect. How long this appearance will last? Is it permanent? Have I any option to protect it?
As all we know, AGA is lifelong process. The improved scalp coverage can be diminished by continued miniaturization and loss of preexisting, nontransplanted hairs. If we want to protect the appearance which we get by transplantation, we must protect the hairs.
In one study visible increases in scalp hair post-transplant were recorded for 94% and 67% of patients in the finasteride and placebo groups, respectively. They observed that for men with androgenetic alopecia, with finasteride daily from 4 weeks before until 48 weeks after hair transplant improves scalp hair surrounding the hair transplant and increases hair density.
By the way, in another study improvement of tissue survival of skin flaps by 5α-reductase inhibitors was found. Can finasteride have other beneficial effect on hair tranplantation?
So, taking finasteride may be a good option …before and after hair transplantation
